Have you ever wondered the age of a person but couldn’t dare to ask him about it?
Well, you don’t need ask anyone about their age anymore as Microsoft has come with with a new web service that can accurately guess anybody’s age and gender by just their photographs.
The site which was initially launched to test Microsoft’s Face Detection API has now become a viral hit on the internet. How-old.net is almost accurately able to guess the age and gender of a person through their photographs. In order to check the credibility of this site, I uploaded photos of few celebrities and the results were not so surprising. The site was able to guess the gender of the all the people accurately, however when it came to the age, it rarely guessed it correctly and most of the time it was just beating around the bush.
Before you head on and try uploading your photo onto the site, you need to know a few things about the terms and conditions which most of us would generally ignore. Here’s a piece of text from the terms and conditions.
However, by posting, uploading, inputting, providing, or submitting your Submission, you are granting Microsoft, its affiliated companies, and necessary sublicensees permission to use your Submission in connection with the operation of their Internet businesses (including, without limitation, all Microsoft services), including, without limitation, the license rights to: copy, distribute, transmit, publicly display, publicly perform, reproduce, edit, translate, and reformat your Submission; to publish your name in connection with your Submission; and to sublicense such rights to any supplier of the Website Services.
The above paragraph clearly states that all the photos uploaded to how-old.net would become property of Microsoft and its affiliates and they will have all the rights to use your photo in any manner they like.
Now that you’ve known about the terms and conditions for using how-old.net ,would you go ahead and give it a try?
