When you are travelling to a foreign place, the first and foremost problem you’re going to face will be understanding the signs in local languages. It will be your good luck that you find someone who speaks a common language such as English, however if you don’t want to bother anyone, you can make use of Google’s translate app.
Google has now updated its Google translate app to translate languages in real time using your phone’s camera. While the app already has a photo translation feature, the new feature of real time language translation is definitely going to make things faster.
Using the new live translation feature is very easy. Just launch the Google translate app and tap on the camera icon. Then you can focus the camera on any foreign language and the app should instantly translate the language for you. And the best part is, this feature doesn’t even require your phone to be connected to a data connection.
Currently the app can translate English to and from French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish with support for many other languages going to be added over the coming days.
We could see this feature coming to Google translate as Google recently acquired the WordLens app, whose features are now added in Google translate app with the latest update.
Apart from this, the latest update also brings in automatic language detection for its audio translation feature. While the audio translation feature has been there since 2013, the new updates makes the app much more efficient at understanding natural languages.
